I’m considering whether or not to “come out the closet” and admit my spandex fetish to the public. For those of you who have done so, can you share the pros and cons of the experience? Are there any regrets? And lastly, any tips?
You should first define “public” as it would mean to you. Do you only want to come out to your wife, or do you want to proclaim it to the world? I think your wife has a right to know, and if she loves you she will hopefully want to do something to please you in that regard. It could open up a world of fun. I wouldn’t suggest telling anyone in the family who doesn’t need to know. To me fetishes are something best kept to your intimate life and those who take part in it. With my ex Barbara two years ago I loved that she wore spandex tight in public. I bought to her one black spandex tight that she wore under short jacket and boots and we took a walk in the streets of Rome. Was beautiful to see the excited eyes of many men and boys to see her shiny butt!!! After we go to make love on my home. I remember she loved these situations and she was very excited to wear Lycra in public. I think many women love to wear spandex over their nude body. Frequently at the gym I think a lot of women wear spandex tight on their nude body and they like it!
I’ve been bring my spandex attraction out slowing to each family member and friends. What this really means is, as I feel comfortable with each person, I release the fact that I love spandex/lycra/fleece. But I have found out that most of them already had it figured out. With me talking about (in a small way, so I thought) babes and what they wear, gave it away. Depending on whom you’re wishing to tell, they may already know and are waiting for you to tell them. But go with your gut and comfort zone. Just don’t blurt it out, some people may not be ready or even understand what you’re saying.
Pros and cons of “coming out of the closet”
November 11th, 2011“American Apparel” leggings
November 7th, 2011Thanks to the spandex-resurgence since 2005, you’ve no doubt been seeing many women wearing spandex zentai suit under tunics, dresses, and even with just shirts — women are back to wearing spandex as part of fashion, and no longer just for exercise. Some people have complained that it’s not like the 80’s anymore, when women wore shiny spandex in a variety of colors and styles. I agree — women now wear mostly black, gray, and dark blue. And usually it’s of a cotton or polyester (non-shiny) blend.
But, never fear! “American Apparel”, a clothing company that has been growing in popularity for the past couple of years, makes the shiny spandex for women of a variety of colors. I guess I would describe their company as some kind of hipster/retro fashion (for men and women). Lots of 80’s style clothes. And specifically, they are bringing back 80’s-style spandex (and early 90’s) — shiny, and a rainbow assortment of colors.
There’s no drawstring – I bought some shiny gold leggings for this girl I know. One reason being is that these are not really primarily “athletic” tights, although their site says they can/should be used for it. Secondly, it’s women’s spandex. A lot of women’s spandex doesn’t have drawstrings because the contours of a woman’s hips and the tightness of the garment are expected to hold it up. Usually it’s the men’s lycra that comes with a drawstring. Case in point: I own some men’s Under Armor leggings, which have a drawstring. I bought some women’s Under Armor leggings for the same girl, and they don’t have a drawstring.
For those lucky enough to have access to The Times UK newspaper today (Sat 17th), the Saturday magazine that accompanies it has a full back page advert titled “Shiny Legs” by american apparel, stating shiny nylon lycra is back and to get the look, with three lovely pairs of legs to show them off too! I do not own any myself however I did notice in their customer forum that a number of people complained about the waistband being too weak and then the tights would ride down. This frankly is criminal in my mind for tights given that they are supposed to be ‘tight’.
Lycra catsuit
October 31st, 2011I was just wondering what is the most number of zentai suits one can put on themselves, zip them up and still manage to unzip themselves to get out? I have 4 suits and have put them all on, but I only zipped up the first 2 suits as I was afraid of getting stuck. Has anyone actually got physically stuck in lots of lycra catsuit layers? Or can you always manage to get out? I have a rather poor metabolic system, so I get too hot if I put on more than one. I wore two to bed once when the temperature was below freezing, and even then my toes were hurting when I woke up. I haven’t been brave enough to try it again since. catsuit shop
I just tried on 5 zentai suits, but I also put a pair of black Lycra shoulder length opera gloves on after the 3rd suit, so it actually felt like I had 6 layers on my hands. I was just about able to get them zipped up and was worried I wouldn’t be able to unzip them. I got them unzipped okay in the end, but your hands are really clumsy with so many layers on. I only put the hood up for the last suit so I could still breathe easily. I wasn’t brave enough to put any more of the hoods up. It’s quite an intense feeling wearing 5 suits at once. They feel skin metallic catsuit and you sweat a lot so the base layers stick to you.
I only have 4 suits, tried them all at the same time once and although it felt amazing I got a little panicky after a while. Found myself sweating, hyperventilating, palpitations, the lot! I have done 5 full suits by myself, but I have to admit that it became so hot inside that it was not as fun as I thought it would be. I did tie a shoe string to the zipper fobs of the last 2 suits so that I could unzip them when it was time to come out, but it still took me a long time to escape from all of that! My fingers were so fat and numb that I could not tell what I was grabbing when I tried to unzip. Recently, I did 2 zentai suits, a Speedo one piece and a mock neck catsuit inside my gold mummy bag. Very fun, but it did get hot.
Since then I have decided that I like 2 layers as the perfect sensation for me. I will get to 3 for a bit just for the fun of getting in another suit. I love the sensation of the next suit sliding so nicely over my Lycra body. Once in, the feel and the sound of the Lycra layers sliding over each other is very exciting! Has anyone bought a zentai suit or leotard specifically with layering in mind? For example, ordering a larger than normal size one to wear on top of others? As I wondered earlier: has any maker made layering easier for their customers in any way? A possibility might be by offering a set of suits with slightly increasing sizes designed to be worn one on top of another.
Costume recycling
October 31st, 2011I am trying to figure out what to wear for Halloween this year. I’m really big on not spending a whole lot of money since I have spent a lot of money on some not so good costumes in the past. Any who, I have the little miss muffed outfit (picture on the bottom of the post) that I want to make into something else. I was thinking perhaps Strawberry Shortcake? Also I have a purple dress that’s very Alice/story book looking (used it as a Cohabits costume for Sakura-con) and I really pretty black lace dress with a lace mask. I’m trying to go towards something that other people can dress up with me in some sort of theme situation and also something that is easily recognizable so I don’t have to constantly explain stuff.
I would have to see the other dresses in order to give you a better suggestion for what you could go as. I do feel you could probably turn the Little Miss Muffet costume into Strawberry Shortcake however if you want to go out with friends using a theme I don’t feel that choice would work out very well. Are you going to a themed party? Or is this something that you’ve just given thought to randomly? People can change their minds quickly and especially when Halloween draws closer; I’m sure there are people on this forum who have gone through eight different costumes before settling on one the day of. I would find out for sure if, and how many of your friends will commit to the idea of going with a theme for Halloween this year.
If you’re going for a theme using a television show, or movie, that’s entirely you and your friend(s) preference. If it was the case of you all being alike I would suggest a group of vampires, zombies or witches. If it’s a small group you could do characters from fairy tales (which I’m sure you could use any one of your dresses for), or maybe an individual story like Alice in Wonderland (mind you this one I find is just too overdone).
Bad Seed Creature Reacher
October 24th, 2011I came across a used Bad Seed Creature Reacher Costume for $80.00. It doesn’t fit my theme at all but for $80.00 I am tempted to buy it because I love the look of it in the photos I have seen. I am wondering how comfortable people find them, how well they last? Can you see out of them well, or do they need to be modified?
I bought the Freak N’ Monster costume two years ago and I was disappointed in the costume. The mask is very hard to see out of. I had to add newspaper to the thread so that it fit snuggly on my head. The actual clothing for the costume is plain to say the least. I ended up modifying that too by adding more burlap. Also i am 6′4″ and the sleeves on the costume were not long enough so i had to make custom sleeves as well. The costume looked cool and if I ever decide to, it will make a nice static prop.
Grab it, I paid a fortune for my Bad Seed, the mask is awesome. Now it is huge, you will have to add newspaper, etc. as Big Nick stated because it is so big. The costume is just as it looks, but that mask is something else. The arms seemed heavy to hold but they are sturdy and creepy, creepy. If you are considering ever having a theme that you would be able to use it you will be glad to have it for $80. I think I paid $300.00 plus shipping and handling. I am using mine again this year for my twisted fairy tales; he will be in the Peter Pumpkin/People Eater area.
CFX Mask Questions
October 18th, 2011I’ve been trying to find the perfect zentai costumes for years but every year comes and goes and I’m always disappoint. I can never seem to find something “authentic” enough. The main thing I’m trying to determine is what is going to be the most unique and how many variations of a costume I can get out of it. So if anyone has purchase one of these or has ideas as far as costumes to go with these, I’m all ears. Right now my top choice is Orlock the Undead (in vampire color) because even though I feel like it’s the most common one that people have purchased, I think it has the most potential in various costumes.
I did a lot of research over the past year between CFX and SPFX and even though I think the detail is better with SPFX, the variety of masks at CFX won it for me. I feel like SPFX masks all have a very similar feel to them. If I was looking to get a mask that was just a variation of a normal person (Old man, pimp, bum, and bouncer) then I’d definitely go for SPFX but I really think that spending that kind of money it should be more of a transformation.
For versatility I like the smooth mask personally. Orlock the Undead you can probably do a lot more with than Nothin to Gein. Orlock you can add a wig to, wear different costumes, different FX teeth, and so on. Gein is pretty much always going to have that… wearing someone else’s skin looks to him… Creepy, yes. Versatile, I don’t really think so.
As for high quality costumes, you can check on custom costuming sites, Renaissance costuming sites (for robes), and theatrical costuming sites. Searches for ‘Halloween costume’ will yield a lot of cheesy, wear it once costumes, but looking under different areas where the same costume can be found gets better results. If you feel confident, you could invest in a small sewing machine and make your own robes and costumes. Just be sure to practice on scrap projects first.
A wee one witch costume
October 13th, 2011We had this plan for my daughter this, her third halloween. However, she was in the store with me, and expressed a desire to be a witch. This, with the zentai suit right next to all the disney princess costumes, She wants to be a “WITCH, no princess”. Because Alice is a witch…but that’s a long story with Alice…
Well, beaming with joy and all aside…I’m having trouble finding a costume. She’s in a 2T, but we could probably swing a 3T. NONE of the costumes around the big stores have a ‘witch’ in that size. By witch, I mean a classic witch. NO cutesy poo “candy corn witch” or no little smiling silly spiders and black cats decorating the costume. Thus, I’m opting for trying to find a dark colored DRESS, and a hat. The hat, I have covered. It’s surprisingly difficult to find toddlers dresses that are not all bright colored happy town things. I’m picturing a dress and buttoned up shoes like the ones small children wore during the Victorian era. Maybe a vintage shop would have something. You should be able to find leggings in her size (black, green, orange). I hope you post a picture of your little Halloween gem all dressed up.
What a doll. I’m so glad to see someone so young want to be spooky, not princessy. I work in The Costume Shop during the season and very rarely see such a young one be anything but a princess. The only time my daughter was cute was when she was 2 and she was Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Ever since, Zumba, Mummy, Vampire, Vampire, Burn victim. I’m am such a proud mom. Even though there was a time I wish I could put her in something cute. I love how your witch costume turned out. She’s adorable.
Great costume with little money
September 26th, 2011My favorite Pirate costume of 2002 was my husband’s big white shirt, my own black pants and brown boots. I found a great red velvet remnant at the fabric store for a sash and I got cheap accessories at the party store to finish it off, eye patch, gold hoop earring and a pouch for gold. I got a lot of compliments that year!
Zombie:
Old clothes – either already owned or from resale, ripped and worn. Basic makeup (white or green with some shading), mess up hair, and practice walking with a slow unsteady gait and an unfocused stare and you’ve got a very decent costume for almost nothing.
Vampire:
Fangs that fit over your canines like Scarecrows are great, but you can find a cheaper option at Walgreens for under $10 (they work similarly fitting over the canines – NOT the silly fangs like children get with the hinged piece) if you’re trying to stay within a budget. Add some dramatic pale makeup, dressy clothes with some antique-looking (costume) jewelry and some fake blood dripped from the mouth. Of course, with the Twilight series, you could just wear street clothes and put on some body glitter and say “I’m a vampire! Ooooh scary!”
Surgeon/nurse (lots of variations you could do here)
You can find cheap scrubs at places like Garden Ridge or even Walgreens sometimes – but they are easily located in stores near hospitals too. You could do just a regular nice doctor or nurse (finding a toy stethescope should be TOO hard, but it’s not essential to the costume). Or you could be an evil crazy doctor/nurse with blood all over you, evil makeup, or you could be a SWINE flu nurse: add a pig nose and one of those big joke shot syringes you should be able to fine at the party stores. Doing something like a time era should also be easy – especially for women since their clothes reflect style changes a bit more than the guys. Local thrift stores might have some cool 70s or 80 things that were popular from the different years.
H1N1 Nurse costume
September 8th, 2011I am planning on making a H1N1 “inoculators” costume for my wife (since she didn’t like my Roller Brawler idea) and would appreciate any clever ideas for it. I am thinking nurse outfit with bandolier of syringes full of shots of Hot Damn etc… Those are labeled “H1N1 vaccine”. One issue is, it can’t be a “sexy nurse” costume since 1/3 of the party is spent in a cold garage and all I would hear all night is “I’m freezing!”
I’d go more along the lines of Nurse Lisa from Silent Hill. If you think the wife would get angry at the swine flu nurse idea. Or just a regular nurse in scrubs with the bandolier… would still get the point across and be warm. What does she say she wants to be costume-wise when you ask her? She doesn’t mind funny stuff but we are going to a party where there is lots of “sexy wear” and suggesting she wear a pig nose would be swatted out of the air like a King Kong airplane. The mask would look very cool but the idea is that she is injecting the inoculation…not the virus itself, I don’t think anyone at the party would want the virus squirted into their mouths. I am thinking of a few different color liquors (red/green/blue) for different viruses.
The bandolier got me thinking “Rambo”… which led to Van Hellsing… and a visual image of a hot, ass-kicking nurse. Starting with the feet– comfy white tennis shoes. White mid-calf/low-calf socks over some flesh colored nylons or ice-skating tights (for warmth). White Capri pants for warmth. Long-ish (past hips) white nurse top– longer than a skeleton costume, but cut to fit a woman’s physique. Black bandolier and belt with syringes that go with a modified NERF dart gun– painted white with a red cross on it… and the darts resemble syringes. (If it works as a gun– even better!) Then, hair pulled back and fixed with pencils with the white pillbox hat with the Red Cross… maybe a cross necklace or spike necklace… or vial of blood…
Gene Simmons of Kiss Costme
September 2nd, 2011This year I plan on going as Gene Simmons of Kiss. Three of my other buddies being the remaining Freely, Stanley, Green Lantern costume. I have a pretty wicked Costume in the works by my question is the makeup. I have done make-up in the past but it has all been uniform and never clashed so much as black and white, not to mention been so exact. Does anyone have any tips? Should I do the white or Black first? Should I try to outline the design with maybe like and eye pencil or mascara or something like that first? Anyone have any recommendations on what kind of make-up to use?
Start with the white first, and then powder that down with cornstarch or talcum/babypowder to set it. Then draw out the black design with eyeliner. Color in with the black, and set that with powder as well. Use either a cake style make-up, or on the cheap use the cream- style tubes. The key is to powder it to set it. They actually make KISS make-up kits for each band member. I’m having a blond moment and can’t remember who puts them PMG? Maybe? I like to use Ben Nye AquaColor which is water based instead of oil-based make-up. You mix it with water and you can paint it on with a brush. The clean-up is easier and if you spray it with Ben Nye Final Seal (no powder) it will stay on no matter how much you might perspire.
Make sure the puffs are pink. They won’t work any other way, and be sure to pat it on “pinky out”…lol! Just kidding, I’m sure you’ll do fine, as long as all your friends are “puffing” too, no reason to be ashamed! All pro makeup is done this way. I’ve seen that show Gene Simmons Family Jewels and he does put his white on first then outlines with a pencil then fills in the black…don’t forget the widows peak. I have seen also fake tongues somewhere that would complete the look. I’ll see if I can find the link.
